Studio Presets Guide
Presets save the Page settings you use often (languages, symbols, fonts, colors, and more) so you can apply them to another visual in one step. They do not copy the words or pictures on the board.
Overview
- Save the current Page settings as a named preset.
- Apply a preset to this visual. Studio may ask to translate text, change language complexity, or update symbols.
- Modified means this visual no longer matches the saved preset.
- The last preset you applied is offered on the next new visual, and in Quick Add when you have at least one preset.
- Presets are shared across templates. They are not per-template.
What’s in a preset
A preset stores Page settings, including:
- Languages (up to two)
- Language complexity (not used on Count & Choose or Build the Equation)
- Symbol source, SymbolStix search (Regular or Sign Language), and skin tone
- Show images / show text, text on top or bottom
- Text size, font, and text colors
- Tile color scheme and border width
- Swap vs insert when reordering tiles
A preset does not store the board title, tile words, or tile images. Image size on the layout toolbar is also not part of a preset.
Open What’s included on a preset row to see that preset’s values.
Getting started
Save a preset
- Open a visual and set Page settings the way you want.
- In the Presets section, click Save (you may also see Save as a preset? after you change settings).
- Enter a name, for example Classroom bilingual.
- Click Save.
You cannot reuse a name you already have.
Apply a preset
- Open Page settings.
- Expand Presets.
- Click the preset name.
- Confirm Apply “[name]”? Review the summary, then apply.
On a multi-page visual, some changes (languages, symbols, complexity) can apply to every page.
When a preset shows modified
If you change Page settings after applying a preset, the name shows modified. You can:
- Update preset. Write these settings back onto the saved preset.
- Save as new. Keep the old preset and create another.
- Reset to “[name]”. Discard local changes and restore the saved preset.
Leave a preset (Flexspeak defaults)
- In the preset list, choose No preset selected.
- Confirm Reset to Flexspeak defaults?
That restores Flexspeak’s starting Page settings for a new board. Visuals you already made keep their own settings until you change them.
Rename or delete
On a preset row, open the actions menu:
- What’s included
- Rename
- Delete
Delete asks: Visuals keep their settings and leave this preset. Deleting does not wipe the words or pictures on those visuals.
New visuals and Quick Add
After you apply a preset, the next visual you create starts from that saved preset (not from unsaved tweaks on the last board).
If you have at least one preset, Quick Add can show the same picker so generated content follows those Page settings.
Tips
- Name presets by classroom or support style, not by one template.
- Apply a preset before Quick Add if you want new words to use that symbol source and language.
- GoTalk Connect Scene visuals keep Google Images even if a preset asks for another symbol source.
